Excimer laser micro-machining has unique advantages over mechanical machining for extremely tough, brittle, hard or delicate materials. Micro machining can be used to cut raw materials to very small complex or high-tolerance shapes.

 

 

Laser-based micromachining systems use a variety of ranges of light to cut, drill, scribe or perforate materials. Alternative methods include focused beam imaging techniques

 

 

Vias and orifices are easily made in thin walls of plastic parts. Circular vias, squares, ovals or other complicated shapes can be made. Thin plastic films as well as parts several mm in thickness can be laser drilled. Films such as Kapton and Mylar are pretty common materials to be laser machined

Vias are easily made in ceramic wafers. Near zero taper along with high density of holes can be achieved. Tough or brittle parts can also be scribed and marked at high speed

Three-dimensional structures can be manufactured on the surface of various ceramics with exceptional precision. Crystal, ceramics, polymers and metals can be micro machined to produce micro gears, actuators, head suspensions, micro coils, medical implants, surgical tool tips and other parts. Micromachining, micro-drilling and micro-marking can be combined to create ink jet nozzles, stripped wires, ablated circuitry, pre-wafer fabrication crystal blanks, frequency-trimmed crystals, and many other parts
